Cat food price in Nepal: dry, wet and litter

Cat food in Nepal is sold in more sizes than seems reasonable: 400 g, 1 kg, 1.2 kg, 3 kg, 7 kg, 10 kg, plus pouches, tins and “combo packs”. The only number that lets you compare them is the price per kg. This page works that out for the brands you will actually find here.

Prices were read off Nepali shop pages on 5 October 2026. They move with offers and stock, so use them as the going range.

The short answer

• Mid-range dry food (Purepet, Drools, Enjoy, Whiskas): about NPR 340 to 670 per kg.
• Premium dry food (Royal Canin): about NPR 1,750 per kg in the 1 kg bag.
• Wet food: NPR 80 to 200 a pouch.
• Clumping litter: about NPR 100 to 155 per kg or litre.

Dry cat food by brand and pack

Pet Shop Nepal lists Royal Canin Kitten “from Rs 4,900” without saying which pack that starting price is for, so it is not in the table. Unbranded loose cat food also sells on Daraz at Rs 249 for 500 g and Rs 495 for 1 kg; the listings don’t name a manufacturer or show an ingredient list, so we can’t tell you what is in it.

Wet food

Wet food is mostly water, which is good for cats that don’t drink much, but it makes a pouch an expensive meal. One pouch a day adds about Rs 3,000 a month. Many owners feed dry food and give a pouch a few times a week.

Cat litter

A litter scoop was Rs 300. One indoor cat goes through roughly 5 to 10 kg of clumping litter a month if you scoop daily and change the tray fully every two to three weeks. Thulo Bazaar’s guide puts litter at NPR 800 to 1,500 a month, which matches these packs.

What a month costs

An adult cat of about 4 kg eats somewhere near 50 to 70 g of dry food a day; the feeding table on your bag is the number to follow. That is 1.5 to 2 kg a month.

Kitten or adult food?

Kittens need kitten food until about a year old. It carries more protein and energy per gram, and kittens eat little and often. In the brands above, kitten and adult recipes cost the same per kg, so there is no saving in feeding a kitten adult food.

Cats are not small dogs. They need taurine and animal protein in amounts dog food doesn’t provide, so a cat living on dog food or on rice and milk will get ill slowly. Many adult cats also don’t digest cow’s milk well. Clean water is the right drink.

Before you buy

• Buy the per kg price, not the pack. A 7 kg bag at Rs 343 per kg is half the cost of the same food in 400 g packs.
• Only buy big if you can store it. Keep dry food sealed in its bag inside a lidded tin, away from the monsoon damp. A 7 kg bag lasts one cat three to four months, so check the best before date.
• Change food over a week. Mix the new into the old. Cats refuse sudden changes, or eat them and bring them back up.
• Count delivery. A Rs 100 delivery fee on a Rs 250 pack is a 40 percent price rise.
